Target view mode through a USB-C dock, is it possible? : mac

Hi everyone,

I recently upgraded from iMac in late 2013 to the new MacBook Pro in 2019, and now I'm looking to use iMac as a monitor using Target View mode. From what I have found, it is possible to use USB-C to Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 and a Thunderbolt 2 cable. (Going by Apple's guide to Target Display Mode)

However, I wondered if anyone had any luck doing it through a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) dock of some kind? Be it using both a USB-C to Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 and a Thunderbolt 2 cable connected to a Thunderbolt 3 port on the dock, or is there even a dock out there that can support taking a of these products out of the mix? Thanks in advance!
