The best method to load or stream local media to AppleTV: appletv

I currently have many media files on an iMac that I want to be able to view and navigate on the AppleTV 4K edition. Is Plex Server currently the best app / solution to stream all my media to AppleTV, so I can choose what I want to watch and then make it appear on my TV? Some of my videos are in 4K high resolution from a Go-Pro, so I’m not sure if AirPlay from the iMac in the other room will be suitable for this. I’ve heard of Kodi, but it was supposedly removed from the TvOS AppStore. I hear Plex is very popular, but if Plex is not the most suitable application, then what is the best option to serve the content from my iMac, and what is the best app to receive it on AppleTV? I’m a bit technically savvy with technical stuff, but I prefer a solution that will only run in my local network behind my router and without jailbreaking or side-loading apps on AppleTV 4k. Thanks for all the advice you can give.
