The latest tvOS 14 beta has noticeably changed the feel of the swipe touchpad on my Apple TV 4K: appletv

I’m not sure if there are any other tvOS 14 beta users here, but I just installed the latest public beta (beta 8, I think), and I immediately noticed that it feels around the interface of Apple TV 4K feels different.

It seems like icons are less ‘sticky’ now. It used to be that when you were on an icon, there was a good deal of leeway where you moved your thumb around the trackpad, and the icon would tilt and shine. You have to swipe quite deliberately to get off the icon, and it will give you so much speed that you often overdo what you aimed for.

It feels like now, icons are a little less sticky, which means less thumb movement makes you move by the icon. As a result, the entire user interface feels faster. It has less smoothness, and you fiddle with the sparkling effect less, but now it feels faster and more accurate to get around.

This is not a big change, but I noticed it immediately after updating from beta 7 to beta 8. Swiping feels faster.

My theory is that Apple is making this change in preparation for a new Apple TV box with a new remote control. I would bet that they have a redesigned remote control coming in late 2020 or spring 2021, and that it will have a UI input method that is different from the current trackpad, so to prepare for that they had to make adjustments in the physics engine to UI navigation.
