In this guide, we’ll provide tips on how to resolve battery issues that users face on their Apple Watch running watchOS 7.

How to check Apple Watch battery life

Before we go on to give you tips on how to solve watchOS 7 battery life issues, we think it’s important to know how much battery life your Apple Watch is expected to deliver, so you can measure even if you’re concerned about battery life. According to Apple, the Series 3 and newer models should offer 18 hours of battery life. This means that it should be perfect for all-day use.

It is important to understand that Apple Watch battery life will vary according to your usage, so if you disable always-on-screen, use a single dial or go easy on the mobile features, Apple Watch battery life will be much better.

Battery percentage

The remaining battery life of the Apple Watch is easy to see. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to access the control center. You see the remaining battery power in percent.

To see battery usage in detail, select the Apple Watch app on iPhone. Make sure you are in the My Clock tab at the bottom, then go to General and scroll down and tap Apply.

Here you can see how many hours of use your watch has been exposed to since the last charge. If you think the number looks higher than it should, chances are something is hampering battery life while not using the watch.

Now that you know how much battery life you can expect and you can track it with the battery percentage indicator, let’s see how you can fix and extend the battery life of your Apple Watch.

4. General tips

Note that the tips in the section are to highlight areas where you can disable things that do not apply to you, so that you can extend battery life. We do not recommend or advise you to disable features only for battery life, as there would be no point in using a smartwatch like the Apple Watch.

I. Use Minimal Watch Faces

watchOS 7 update brings new dials for Apple Watch users. To improve battery life, you should skip animated butterflies, cartoon characters or graphic-heavy dials and instead go with simple clock face with more black and fewer animated graphic elements.

ii. Always turn off the screen

This only applies to Apple Watch Series 5 and 6 users. The Always-On Display allows you to discreetly check the time and more without having to tap the Apple Watch screen or turn / raise your wrist to activate it. Keeping the Apple Watch screen on at all times can affect the battery life of your device. You should consider turning off the feature.

Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch, go to Display and Brightness, and turn off the on-screen display.

iii. Turn off the wrist

The Wrist Raise feature on the Apple Watch lets you turn on the screen when you lift your wrist to check time or alerts. If you frequently raise your arms during working hours, it is a good idea to turn off the function from the Settings app.

Open the Watch app on iPhone. From the My Clock tab, tap General> Remove Screen, and then tap the slider at the top. Alternatively, you can turn off this feature on the Apple Watch itself. Tap the Settings icon> General> Wake Screen, and then tap the slider next to Wake Screen on Wrist Raise.

iv. Turn off Reduce motion

You can use some accessibility features to improve the battery life of your Apple Watch.

Go to Apple Watch, go to General> Accessibility> Reduce Motion, and turn on Reduce Motion. This will limit the animation and automatically resize the Apple Watch user interface on the Home screen when you open and close apps.

v. Use silent mode

Another way to conserve some power is to stop the Apple Watch when you receive alerts.

Go to the Apple Watch app on your phone, select Sounds & Haptics and tap the Silent Mode switch under Notification Volume. Do not worry, alarms and timers will not be muted.

we. Use optimized battery charging

All Apple Watch models come with a lithium-ion battery. Due to their nature, the life of lithium ion chemicals is limited over time. Meaning, the Apple Watch battery comes with fixed charge cycles.

Apple Watch battery capacity deteriorates over time. You should keep a record of the device’s battery capacity percentage at regular intervals. If it goes down to 60% -50% percent, it’s time to replace the battery on the Apple Watch to improve the overall navigation of the watchOS. Open the clock settings and activate optimized battery charging under the battery menu.

vii. Activate power save mode for training

Power save mode during Exercise can extend battery life as it shuts off the built-in heart rate sensor while running and walking. Does not make the calculations for energy burning in some workouts may be less accurate.

viii. Activate grayscale display mode

I would not recommend this step, but if you desperately want to stretch battery power, open the Watch app on your iPhone and go to General> Accessibility. Turn on grayscale and remove any color from the watch.
