Developer @ Pwn20wnd has broken what appeared to be a stupid form of releases by announcing a 2.0.0 public beta of unc0ver jailbreak.
This release comes not only as a surprise, but continues from the release of 1.1.4 more than three weeks ago.
The developer of the unc0ver project – @ Pwn20wnd – announced the 2.0.0 release via the usual social mechanism, which signals that the release will be made publicly available at a beta capacity, but also is his intention to push it out as an official issue as long as no major issues are reported in the next few days:
unc0ver v2.0.0 is now out for public testing. This will be followed with the official release if we do not receive any major bug reports for the next few days. Please read changelog.
Referring to changelog, and to mark what's new with version 2.0.0, the official GitHub depot gives an indication of the new inclusions:
- Initial Cydia Substrate support
- A break in place for to install OpenSSH
- A break in place to install Cydia
- A dedicated button to restart Springboard when device is not in a jailbroken state
- An ability to update jailbreak components over-the-air (OTA)
- A bootstrap update
- A number of bug fixes and improvements; Fix for jailbreakd errors, battery life improvements, Electra loop reductions, system reload speed improvements
It seems immediately clear that this particular release is intended to get version 2.0.0 out in the public domain to get real testing done and real feedback from members of society who are passionate about This product and which are interested in ensuring that it is as stable as possible. According to the tweet, if no major is reported to the development team, it is likely that this will be pushed out earlier than later as a full public release.
Other than those mentioned in changelog, the default format for unc0ver remains the same. There is still a semi-tethered jailbreak designed for use on devices running iOS 11.0 to iOS 11.4 beta 3. If you're passionate about jailbreaking, you can capture the latest public beta of unc0ver right now and put it through its steps.
